Tim Cook Hints at 5G Deployment During Earnings Call

Yesterday afternoon, Apple CEO Tim Cook held an earning call to discuss the latest quarterly earnings. During the call, Cook reflected on the record-breaking quarter and touched on 5G and what the future might bring.

According to a report from MacRumors, Cook was asked about 5G and Apple’s course of action. While Cook did not disclose any of Apple’s upcoming plans, he did say 5G was in the “early innings of its deployment on a global basis.”

While not an official statement as to whether or not the iPhone 12 would be taking advantage of 5G networks, it does seem as though Apple is readying itself to hit the ground running when it comes to the advancement of wireless technology. Later, Cook remarked about how excited he was about the product pipeline Apple has been developing and that he “wouldn’t trade our position with anybody.”



The widespread buzz going around is that Apple’s 2020 flagship iPhones will have mmWave and Sub-6GHz 5G network support. Analysts have speculated that Apple will be utilizing Qualcomm’s chips to support its shift to 5G networking and is in the process of solidifying North American and worldwide coverage.

While Cook remained disappointingly vague, a 5G deployment from Apple seems to be imminent from the insider reports and analyst studies. It appears as though we may have to wait until September to receive an official confirmation on Apple’s plans.
