Streaming services are taking over the world and yet another offering, HBO Max, set to launch in 2020, will make its way into Canada via Bell Media.

Bell announced it had signed a “new long-term exclusive deal” with Warner Bros. to bring the latter’s HBO Max programming to Canada, starting in 2020. This is the first expansion of HBO Max outside of the U.S.

HBO Max and its original series (and first-run Warner Bros. feature films) will be available on Bell Media’s Crave and CTV platforms.

“Bell Media has been an important partner with its channels and platforms bringing HBO originals to viewers in Canada for many years,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer. “It is only fitting we are not only extending this relationship but also deepening it to include great new series produced for HBO Max.”

Here are some of the HBO Max original series coming to Bell Media:

  • GOSSIP GIRL
  • THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT
  • DUNE: THE SISTERHOOD
  • COLLEGE GIRLS (working title)

“As we approach the one-year anniversary of the all-new Crave, we’re more committed than ever to ensure ongoing access to the highest caliber content,” said Randy Lennox, President, Bell Media. “With this new HBO Max agreement, we are expanding our long and successful partnership with HBO and Warner Bros. and demonstrating this commitment to premium content in an era of increasing competition.”

For those subscribing to Crave, accessing HBO content costs extra. To get HBO Max content, it’s unknown whether additional charges will be coming or not, but most likely it will cost more, giving the subscription model of the new streaming service.

Bell Media says specific details on HBO Max content in Canada will be made available “in the coming months”.
