Rogers 6GB Data Plan Returns Along with New $70 Promo Plan

Rogers has re-launched the 6GB/$30 data plan and released a new $70 promo plan. As expected, the 6GB data plan returns to coincide with the iPhone 4S launch. The new $70 voice and data plan is eerily similar to the one released yesterday by Telus.

$70 Unlimited My10 and 6GB Data Plan
– 200 weekday minutes ($0.45/minute for overages)
– Unlimited evenings and weekends from 6PM (5PM for Midwest)
– Unlimited SMS and MMS
– MY10 Canada
– 2500 Call forwarding minutes
– Who Called and Call Manager
– 6GB data (can be shared)

Probably doesn’t include CD or VM.

It infuriates me to no end that R/B/T are allowed (by consumers) to continue gouging everyone on things like SMS, CD, and VM, which cost next to nothing!!

Anyone knows if I can just switch my current plan to this one and if I could would the contract be extended another 3 years or just stay with the same end date as my previous one?

Anyone know if you can use the 6GB on the LTE network? I have no desire to get the iPhone 4S, and would like to switch from my iPhone 4 to the Android Samsung LTE that is coming out.

No you cannot use the 6GB plan for LTE. The LTE is a flex rate plan that bumps you up to the next tier when you hit it.

So how much would it be for CD and VM to be included with this plan?

Around $80?

How about unlimited incoming calls?   Does anyone know about it?

I think given the conditions set by the major telcos, the optimum thing to do is get the unlimited $35 voice + $30 data plan with Fido… then buying the unlocked phone from Apple. No human should have to be locked into a phone contract for 3 years. This way you get new phones with no contract when you want it.

If you refer to the 6GB/$30 data plan, those normally require a 3-year contract. Might as well get the subsidized phone.

Apparently, there really isn’t any non-promotional 6gb/$30 promotion according to Rogers (and I’m sure the other telcos will follow the same procedures).  Those promotions come and go randomly.  This would create problems for the unlockers.

Just to clarify, if you’re already on contract and have the 500Mb/$25 addon, can you just upgrade to the 6Gb/$30?

I’m on fido and waiting for them to offer the 6Gb again..

you can always upgrade to 6GB for 30$, however it comes with a new 3 year agreement I think. Does not delay your hardware eligibility though!

Yes and I just talked to Rogers and it is unavailble there too currently.  I think that when it is available, I believe you can upgrade easily.

The biggest omission in this plan… and it will cost you arms and legs…

is..

CALL DISPLAY : $8
or
iPhone packages (call display, virtual voice mail, text <- already included?)  for : $20.

Or am I mistaken?  I don't see it listed.

only thing nice about it is $30 / 6GB.

with VoIP apps like MagicJack, and iMessage, don't really need lots of voice minutes nor text message anymore (in fact you can turn outgoing SMS off in iOS5, just if you have no plan Rogers will charge you PAYG, and I asked if I can just block SMS altogether and they said no, and I will be charged for incoming regardless of it outside my control… what a scam.  )

i currently have the 6gig for $30 contract from fido but am currently on month to month because my contract has ended, but will i be able to renew my 6 gig plan while changing my voice plan as it is currently costing me $45 and i want to switch to the $30 city fido plan to save money plus that will get rid of my system access fee i pay every month (~$8)

I have a question I talked to one of the agent on Rogers. the guy Said your phone wouldn’t be affected but I have to get a new 3 year plan on this plan on my iPhone 4. so does that mean I can wait 2 years and get a new phone?? or 3 years again since i got a new 3 year contract??

If the current upgrade policy does not change then you must wait 30months before you can get an upgrade at the cheapest price. But history has shown that the carriers will change their policies from time to time

However you can always get an early upgrade but the price will be more.

Also you can change your plan at anytime. It does not effect your ability to upgrade

Transfer of Responsibility — Rogers smart phone plan

I am moving my cell phone service from Rogers to Bell and am looking for someone who might be interested in taking over my plan (Rogers calls this a Transfer of Responsibility).

Plan Details:

450 daytime minutes

6 pm evenings (6 pm to 7 am Weekdays free and all weekends)

unlimited incoming from other Rogers customers

6G data plan (tethering allowed)

unlimited messaging (text, picture, video)

MY5 Canada-wide (unlimited calling and texting)

Visual Voice Mail

Caller ID, call waiting, call transfer

$83.23 total with taxes

If you have your own hardware (cell phone) you won’t need to sign a contract!!

If you need new hardware, you will need to sign a 3-year contract

According to Rogers, this is a very competitive plan. They do offer a similar plan (for $82.35) but with only 300 daytime minutes. And the 6 pm evenings and 6G data plan offers are said to be ending soon.
