Rogers Expands ‘Roam Like Home’ to Nearly 800,000 Wireless Customers

We already told you Rogers expanded their Roam Like Home feature beyond those with Share Everything Plans, but this morning the company made it official. Rogers says the expansion is “in time for the busy winter travel season,” which will allow Canadians to roam in the U.S. and other international destinations.

“Customers told us they wanted access to Roam Like Home no matter what wireless plan they were on and we listened,” said Leroy Williams, Vice-President Wireless Marketing, Rogers Communications, in an emailed statement issued to iPhone in Canada.

According to Williams, “Roam Like Home customers use twice the data in the U.S. and four times the data in international destinations as those without the service.”

Rogers says close to 800,000 additional postpaid wireless customers can use their existing plans with Roam Like Home, which costs $5 per day in the U.S. and $10 per day internationally at over 100 locations. Billing maxes out at 10 days per monthly bill cycle, to a max of $50 for U.S. or $100 for International Roam Like Home destinations. With this in mind, it can be tricky for consumers to match travel dates with their billing cycle to minimize roaming costs.

Finally, Williams added “Roam Like Home has revolutionized the way our customers use their smartphones when they travel. They love the freedom of stepping off the plane and using their smartphone, knowing they won’t come home to an unexpected roaming bill.”

To find out if your plan is eligible for Roam Like Home, text TRAVEL to 222 from your smartphone.

While Roam Like Home and Fido Roam makes it ‘easy’ to use your existing cell plan while travelling, it’s still cheaper to use a local SIM card at your destination or setup Roam Mobility before you depart.

Are you going to use Roam Like Home now that it has expanded?
