Rogers’ shomi and Netflix Partner to Launch New Drama Series ‘Between’

Back in August Rogers and Shaw announced an online streaming service called shomi, to compete with Netflix, for the price of $8.99 per month.

Today, Rogers and its TV property City have announced it has partnered with Netflix to launch a new drama series called Between, created by Michael McGowan and starring Jennette McCurdy. Here’s the synopsis for the show:

Between is the story of a town under siege from a mysterious disease that has wiped out everybody except those 21 years old and under. The series explores the power vacuum that results when a government has quarantined a 10-mile diameter area and left the inhabitants to fend for themselves.

Now this is where it gets interesting. The first season will feature six one-hour episodes and exclusively premiere on shomi and City and for Netflix users OUTSIDE of Canada. Netflix Canada members will get the series one year later.

If you want to watch this Canadian series when it launches, you must be a shomi subscriber or have City as part of your cable TV package.

What do you think about this new partnership? Are you okay with waiting a year to view this series on Netflix in Canada?
