WIND Mobile to Lower Canadian, USA Roaming Rates for Calls, Texts and Data

WIND Mobile users who roam outside their home network in Canada and the USA are set to see lower voice, text and data rates, starting on August 21, 2014, according to details outlined within an internal memo, reports MobileSyrup.

For new and existing customers, the lower Canadian and USA roaming rates are as follows:

  • Outgoing calls to Canada/USA: $0.20 —> $0.15 per minute
  • Incoming calls: $0.20 —> $0.15 per minute
  • Outgoing SMS to Canada/USA: $0.15 —> $0.05 per text (incoming texts still free)
  • Data: $1/MB —> $0.05 per MB

Also, WIND Mobile says Canadian roaming will now include HSPA+ speeds of up to 42.2Mbps, while a new BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) credit of $7.50 is also being introduced, applicable towards monthly add-ons and pay-per-use services.

Back in January, the carrier introduced a $15 per month unlimited USA talk, text and data roaming plan add-on.

WIND Mobile was rumoured earlier this month to be possibly in the acquisition targets of Quebecor and New York-based equity company Blackstone Group LP, with a price tag pegged at $300 million for the wireless entrant.

The carrier announced at its 2014 Q2 earnings they had an increased subscriber base of 20 percent compared to the year ago quarter, now sitting at 741,000 customers.

While the company doesn’t officially sell the iPhone yet, late unlocked AWS iPhone 5 models, along with unlocked iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models work on the carrier’s network.

If you’re a WIND Mobile customer that roams frequently, looks like prices are going to a bit lower for you now.
