NOCS NS200 Aluminum Earphones With Remote & Mic For iPhone / iPod [REVIEW]

I never thought I’d think of myself as an audiophile one day but over the past few years, I believe I’ve actually become one. I rarely watch movies on TV since it does not have digital surround sound and that pretty much kills it for me. I also don’t listen to my music unless I’ve got a decent pair of headphones on. So, when it comes to testing a pair of quality earphones such as the NOCS NS200, I feel really excited about it. Check out my thoughts after the break!

Review:

Designed by NOCS in Sweden, the NS200 Aluminum earphones comes packaged in a decent rectangular box. Opening it up reveals white colored packets labelled as “Earphones”, “Accessories” as well as a black zippered carrying pouch and a manual.

The packet labelled “Earphones”, of course, contains the NOCS 200 aluminum earphones while the one labelled “Accessories” includes three extra sets of ear tips i.e small, medium and large as well as a shirt-clip.

Coming to the aesthetics of the NS200, their simplistic Swedish design in surely an eye catcher. The matte black aluminum finish of the earbuds with matching colored bulbous silicone tips give it a pretty sleek appearance. The Remote / Mic module is situated at just the right spot to pick up your voice while the three circular buttons work as expected, up and down for volume, center button to pause or skip tracks.

After the initial burn-in period, the NOCS sound pretty decent with a good amount of bass. I listened to some old ‘bass test’ sample tracks via iTunes (you know, the ones people used to play to test bass from their subwoofers in their rides) and it was deep and booming. The highs were balanced, but the mid-range was muffled somewhat, which is to be expected from a single driver earbud.

For casual listening to music and movies, I found the NOCS to be excellent. If you’re not a hardcore audiophile, you will appreciate these headphones. The built in mic for voice calls sounded ‘pretty good’ according to my tests with friends, so it’s all good on that front.

Conclusion:

The sturdy aluminum build and sleek controls of NS200 are particularly impressive, with some nice deep bass and well rounded mid-range and high notes. I did find the headphones to be very light weight, which is great for travel. The only downside I can think of are the ear tips, as the size differences between each bud are hardly noticeable. So depending on your ears, you might have issues making them fit properly.

At the end of the day, you can get the Swedish-designed NOCS NS200 from Amazon.ca for $69 CDN. Considering the excellent build quality, integrated mic/remote, and great sound (especially the bass), these are definitely ones to put on your shortlist if you want to replace the stock Apple headphones for an affordable price.
