Latest Rumors: iPhone 2.2 Firmware + Costco $149 iPhone

Welcome to Wednesday’s iPhone rumor round up everybody. In the past day there have been some interesting reports regarding the launch of 2.2 firmware and Costco carrying the iPhone 3G at a significant price drop. Let’s get onto some more details shall we?

iPhone 2.2 Firmware to be Released on November 21st?

Greek site iPhone Hellas has an insider report that the upcoming 2.2 iPhone firmware will be released on November 21st. So far we’ve covered some of the highlights of 2.2 firmware, which will include Google Maps street view, walking directions, and location sharing. Another feature that has been reported is over the air downloading capabilites of podcasts.

The latest 2.2 screenshots that have emerged courtesy of BGR includes revisions to the App Store. You can now sort app categories by themselves! So now you can see Top Paid, Top Free, and Release Date in each category (this outta make it easier especially since it feels like there are over 1 billion apps nowadays).

Other changes include icons placed beside each category and the ability to browse through all the application screenshots instead of just one (sorta like browsing screenshots via iTunes). Check out these screenshots:

Regardless of what has been reported, most of us are in dire need of copy and paste, SMS forwarding, and landscape keyboard mode (Firemail currently solves this problem). Let’s hope 2.2 firmware will have more bug fixes to remove the dreaded sluggishness and lag of a jailbroken iPhone. Keep your fingers crossed!

Costco to Sell the iPhone 3G for $149?

Trip Chowdry from Global Equity Research is one man team who writes on trends and rumors from Silicon Valley. His latest “Silicon Scoop” reports that Apple is going to sell the iPhone 3G at Costco locations starting in January for $149. Could this really be true? I think this comment made by commenter ‘applecart’ on MacDailyNews sums it up: “$149 @ costco, PLEASE. jobs would sooner cut his wrist with a unibody.” LOL, now that’s what you call taking advantage of the incredible ah-loo-min-noo-um (damn you Jonathan Ive) unibody!

I agree that it does sound far-fetched that Costco would get their hands on the iPhone 3G so quickly. However, with the US economy currently in a endless downward spiral, maybe a price cut might incur some more sales. Reports have said that Apple is cutting back its iPhone production. Maybe Costco is the answer Apple needs to sell 10 trillion iPhones? One thing is for sure, if you buy the iPhone 3G from Costco you will have the limited iron-clad Costco warranty on your side!

So, which rumor do you think will pan out, if any?
