Analyst Claims ‘iPhone 5’ Shows No Redesign, Same 3.5″ Screen, Glass Front and Back?

With recent reports of the iPhone 5 to receive a larger screen and thinner, wider design, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes otherwise, in his notes sent in to MacRumors. Moreover, the timeline for Apple to send GM builds of iOS to manufacturers will be from the last week of September, coinciding with a rumoured October launch.

According to Kuo, there is also no evidence in his supply chain sources to hint at a newly redesigned ‘iPhone 5’, but rather similar features as the existing iPhone 4, hinting at a slight upgrade to the next iPhone.

His notes include the next iPhone will have 512MB of RAM like the iPad 2, a slightly thinner design based on revealed camera module thickness, a similar 3.5″ display, and chances the front and back to have glass once again. Kuo reiterates the manufacturers Foxconn and Pegatron responsible for production, with Foxconn taking the lion’s share of the load at 85%, and Pegatron responsible for the Asia-Pacific market.

If this is true, the report hints more at the ‘iPhone 4S’/N94, or it could be just speculation because Apple is keeping a tight lid on its next prototype–except for the unit they ‘lost’ in San Francisco recently.

What are some specs the next iPhone must have to make it worthy enough for you to upgrade (aside from just being the next iPhone)?

What about the special glass cutting machines?  What about the patented thin bezel assembly process?

This is a fail! this guys a loser begging for attention. If it turns out to be true Apple will have a hard time keeping true as the top smartphone for 2012. Count me out if this turns out to be true.

If the “4S” rumors are true, then it would depend on how thin they go. If they make it as thin as the iPod, I’d definitely have to think about it (as my nieces iPod looks perfect in the case she has) but wouldn’t get one on launch. A part of me would also think apple failed for holding out this long for basically just a hardware upgrade.

Larger, thinner, faster redesign and I’m camping out to get that bad boy!

This wouldn’t surprise me… it would follow a pattern the iPhone 3 did… which would be fine by me, then I can upgrade to the better model when my contract comes up to two years. 🙂

As much as I love Apples incredibly innovative products, I’m not blindly buying all the things they put out. I can’t see Apple gaining more market share (in fact, I believe they may lose some) if they stick with the same iPhone 4 design, 3.5″ display, 512mb of RAM. I’m sure these are good enough specs for the average consumer today but with other devices getting superior hardware for lower costs, people are going to looking at HTC and samsung for new phones.

It’s been 4 generations and I think the iPhone screen enlargement is overdue. I’ll need the A5, bigger screen, 1gb of RAM, better camera to stick around.
