Apple Rumoured to Introduce Standalone Podcasts App for iOS 6

According to Peter Kafka’s sources over at AllThingsD, Apple is set to introduce a standalone podcasts app when the final version of iOS 6 is released to the public this fall:

People familiar with Apple’s plans tell me that when its new iOS 6 software becomes widely available this fall, podcasts will have their own app, where users will be able to discover, download and play them on mobile devices. Users who access iTunes via laptop and desktop machines will still find them in that version of iTunes, though.

If there’s one area of iTunes Apple has neglected, it’s the podcasts. They are pretty much pushed out of the limelight, similar to iTunes U. That was until iTunes U received its own standalone app. As for the report via App Advice on the missing Podcasts section within iTunes? Podcasts are indeed missing in iOS 6.

iTunes has continued to be ‘broken down’ by Apple, as separate apps are now available for music, videos, iTunes U, and iBooks. Who’s keen on seeing a standalone app for podcasts?
