WSJ: iPhone 5 to Support LTE Around the World, Canada Most Likely Included

The Wall Street Journal reports the upcoming iPhone 5 will support faster LTE networks, although it won’t be supported on every carrier:

Apple Inc.’s next iPhone will work on the fastest wireless networks around the world—including in the U.S., Europe and Asia—though it is unlikely to be available on every carrier, people familiar with the matter said.

The reason for this is LTE is more fragmented when compared to 3G networks around the world. When Apple launched the new iPad with LTE networking, Rogers, Bell and Telus networks in Canada were the only ones to officially support it, aside from Verizon Wireless and AT&T in the USA.

Given how Canada’s major networks were officially supported with the new iPad and LTE, it’s most likely a given an LTE capable iPhone will work in Canada. iMore reported back in March an LTE-capable iPhone would be coming this Fall.

This June, Apple was forced to pay a $2.25 million dollar fine in Australia over ‘misleading’ iPad 4G advertising. Soon after, Apple revised the new iPad with LTE to ‘WiFi + Cellular’.

Are you ready for an LTE iPhone 5 to launch next week?

Rogers did mine in mid August and I didn’t even request it. Same price, same data plan.
