Amazon Prime Video App for Apple TV 4 Launching This Summer: Report

Recode reports Apple and Amazon have reportedly reached a deal to finally bring the Amazon Prime Video app to Apple TV 4, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter:

The tech giants, who are increasingly competing for customers’ time, eyeballs and money, are close to an agreement to bring an Amazon video app to Apple’s Apple TV set-top box, according to people familiar with the two companies.

The app is said to launch sometime in the third quarter of this year, according to Amazon employees.

Amazon Prime Video is the company’s free perk for its Prime subscribers, offering original video content and other TV shows and movies. By having a native tvOS app on Apple TV, it will mean an easier way for customers to view Amazon Prime Video content, instead beaming from their iPhone or iPad using AirPlay.

Sources say the disputes between Amazon and Apple were ironed out by their leaders Jeff Bezos and Tim Cook.

Canadians gained access to Amazon Prime Video back in December, part of a global launch.

Amazon Prime costs $79 CAD per year (50% off for students), offers free two-day shipping, along with one-day and same-day depending on location, plus discounts on video game pre-orders, and more.
