Last month, Apple announced Canadians will start seeing Apple Maps cars driving across Canada, as part of the iPhone maker’s plans to improve their mapping application.
We’ve already seen people spot these cars across Toronto and now we’re hearing reports of these cars being seen around Greater Vancouver, in B.C.’s Lower Mainland.
iPhone in Canada reader Shaun shared the following image with us, saying, “I just drove past TWO Apple Maps vehicles on 10th Ave in New West, about two blocks apart.”
Yesterday, we heard Apple Cars were driving along Kingsway and 25th in East Vancouver.
Prior to WWDC, speculation was Apple was set to launch their own Google Street View service. After the preview of iOS 13 at the WWDC keynote, we now know a new ‘Look Around’ feature is coming, which will let you “Explore cities with an immersive 3D experience that lets you pan around 360 degrees and move seamlessly down streets.”
The Look Around feature is already live for some U.S. cities within Apple Maps in iOS 13 beta. Here’s our screenshot of the feature when you search for Cupertino. You’ll see the Look Around thumbnail in the lower left if it’s available, showing a binoculars icon. Once you tap it, you enter ‘Look Around’ view, where you can tap and travel down the street, with smoother animations versus Google Street View:
Apple says they are using aerial mapping along with cars on the ground to rebuild Apple Maps with more details and points of interests.
