Apple Hires Industrial Designer Marc Newson, Will Join Jony Ive’s Design Team

Apple has made another significant hire, this time the company telling Vanity Fair it has hired designer Marc Newson to join the company’s design time, headed by Jony Ive.

Newson, as the newest Apple employee will be continue to be based in the UK, but will fly to Cupertino frequently. He is a close friend of Jony Ive, who is also from the UK. In a statement, both men had this to say about the new hiring:

“Marc is without question one of the most influential designers of this generation,” Ive said in a statement provided to VF Daily. “He is extraordinarily talented. We are particularly excited to formalize our collaboration as we enjoy working together so much and have found our partnership so effective.”

“I’m full of admiration and respect for the extraordinary design work that has been produced by Jony and the team at Apple,” Newson said. “My close friendship with Jony has not only given me a unique insight into that process, but the opportunity to work together with him and the people that have been responsible. I am enormously proud to join them.”

Ive and Newson previously partnered to create a line of limited edition products to raise money for Product (RED), which included a one-of-a-kind work desk, a partnership that also include U2’s Bono.
