Apple released iOS 15, iPadOS 15, tvOS 15 and watchOS 8 today for its customers to download and install.
Part of the software release day also introduced iCloud+, which offers extra features such as iCloud Private Relay, Hide My Email, and more HomeKit Secure Video support.
For Apple One subscribers, Apple has sent an email to say “you’ve been upgraded to iCloud+ for free”. We are currently subscribed to Apple One Premier in Canada ($33.95 per month) and received the email tonight.
In a nutshell, iCloud+ is included free with any paid storage option. But the email is one way of informing users about the change.
“Great news! We’ve automatically upgraded your iCloud storage plan to iCloud+ at no additional charge. iCloud+ combines everything you already love about iCloud with new features including iCloud Private Relay, Hide My Email, and more HomeKit Secure Video support,” explains the Apple email.
Currently, the internet privacy service iCloud Private Relay is still in beta. Hide My Email lets you create random emails that forward to your main email address, keeping your main address private.
HomeKit Secure Video lets you connect your home security cameras in the Home app so you can record and view footage from anywhere. Apple says this private and secure video storage does not use your iCloud storage.
For Custom Email Domain, it lets you personalize your iCloud Mail address with a custom domain name. Family Sharing in iCloud+ allows up to five family members to join your subscription.
Apple’s iCloud+ page for the U.S. details the new service is included with storage tiers 50GB, 200GB and 2TB. The 50GB plan includes HomeKit Secure Video for 1 camera, the 200GB plan includes 5 cameras and the 2TB plan offers unlimited security cameras.
Canadian iCloud storage pricing starts at $1.29 per month for 50GB, $3.99 per month for 200GB and $12.99 per month for 2TB of storage, and should also include iCloud+ as well.
