CBC has announced its digital streaming service, CBC Gem, will launch on Amazon Fire TV and Android TV next week.
The expansion to two more platforms will take place on Monday, April 15, 2019, in what the CBC says is the “most heavily requested by viewers”, in an email to iPhone in Canada.
Earlier this week, CBC Gem saw a redesign of its home screen to show movies and TV shows on ‘shelves’, in an effort to show content to subscribers in a more “intuitive and familiar manner.”
The streaming service is free for guests and members, while a premium subscription at $4.99 per month offers ad-free on-demand episodes and live stream access to the CBC News Network.
CBC Gem is currently available on Apple TV and Google Chromecast. Next week will see the addition of Amazon Fire TV and Android TV, while “other platforms are currently being evaluated.”
The CBC TV iOS and tvOS app was rebranded as CBC Gem back in December 2018, when the latter launched its premium subscription option.
