A Simple Egg Becomes Instagram’s Most-Liked Post Ever [u]

Dethroning Kylie Jenner’s birth-announcement post from last year, a simple photo of an orange, lightly freckled egg has become Instagram’s most-like post ever with more than double the likes.

Over 42 million people (and counting) have liked the post on Instagram compared to 18.5 million likes on Kylie’s post.

One must wonder if it’s a diamond-encrusted egg or maybe it has a popular YouTube channel, or involves someone sexy or a celebrity doing something with it. But no, it’s just a photo of a regular egg.

If you haven’t already seen (or liked it), here’s the world-record holding egg post on Instagram.

The purpose of the egg image? “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this? #LikeTheEgg #EggSoldiers #EggGang”

The brains of the human race are getting flipped sunny-side up and scrambled with these social media goals.

Update: The American Egg Board celebrated this milestone by releasing the following statement to Business Insider:

“On behalf of America’s egg farmers, The Incredible Egg is thrilled to see the egg get the recognition it deserves,” American Egg Board CEO Anne Alonzo said in a statement. “We always knew eggs were incredible… now the world has confirmed it.”
