Facebook ‘Vanish Mode’ Rolling Out for Messenger and Instagram

Facebook swipe gesture

Facebook has announced Vanish Mode is now rolling out for Messenger and Instagram. The opt-in feature essentially brings an ‘incognito’ chat, where there is no history once you exit the mode.

“To turn it on, swipe up on your mobile device in an existing chat thread and you’re in vanish mode. Swipe up again and you’re back to your regular chat. That’s it!”, explains Facebook.

“Now you can send memes, GIFs, stickers or reactions to share what you really think when you can’t find the words, or just be silly with your friends without it staying in your chat history,” added the social network.

You can only use vanish mode with people you’re connected to. When people take screenshots—you’re notified as well.

Vanish mode is “slowly rolling out” on Messenger and Instagram in the U.S. and a handful of other countries, and will expand to others soon.

The new chat feature is now live in Canada on Messenger as we were able to enable it with select friends. But we’re not seeing the feature yet on Instagram.

Last week, Facebook rolled out a disappearing messages feature on WhatsApp.
