Facebook lets you send GIFs in Messenger, but there is currently no way to send a GIF as a reaction to a comment on Facebook itself.
According to TechCrunch, Facebook is about to start testing a GIF button that will let users post GIFs in comments. The button will pull from various GIF repositories like Giphy. In a statement, Facebook told TechCrunch:
“Everyone loves a good GIF and we know that people want to be able to use them in comments. So we’re about to start testing the ability to add GIFs to comments.
We’ll share more when we can, but for now we repeat that this is just a test.”
Since this is only a test, Facebook is giving a limited number of users access to its GIF comment button. The GIF comment button will work like the existing GIF button in Facebook Messenger, which lets you browse trending GIFs or search for a specific one.
A timeline for a full public launch of the feature is still unknown. TechCrunch reports that Facebook already built support for GIFs years ago but has delayed the rollout due to a fear that it would disrupt the feed aesthetic.
