Instagram Surpasses 300 Million Users, Now Larger than Twitter

Instagram has announced it has surpassed 300 million active users, a growth of 50 percent in the past nine months alone, with over 70 million photos and videos shared daily. That makes the Facebook-owned social network larger than Twitter, which had 284 million active users in the third quarter.

With Instagram available on Android on top of iOS, expect that number to just keep growing and growing.

The social network also announced the launch of verified badges for athletes, celebrities and brands, set to roll out this week. Also, Instagram says it is set to delete fake and spammy accounts forever, noting some will see a drop in follower counts.

Last month Instagram launched sponsored ads in Canada, with more companies set to join over the coming months.
