iPhone 6 Plus Vs. iPhone 5s Wi-Fi Speed Comparison [VIDEO]

Both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus come equipped with 802.11ac Wi-Fi, as compared to the previous generation iPhone 5/5s which only supported 802.11n technology. To compare the speed difference between the two Wi-Fi standards, an iPhone 6 Plus and an iPhone 5s have been put to test in a video comparing the Wi-Fi speeds of the two devices (via iClarified).

Test

Before performing the test, both the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 5s were freshly restored to iOS 8.0 and connected to the 2013 Apple AirPort Extreme. The router was placed 1.5 metres away from the smartphones and each iPhone was connected to the AirPort Extreme using a 5GHz-only network.

“No other devices were connected to the wireless network at the time of the test and the downloads were performed at separate times. We cut them together for comparison. As you will see in the video, there is a substantial speed improvement.”

Sadly, there is not much relevance these days to the maximum wifi speeds as in the above exampe. Most people’s at home wifi barely reach 25 Mbps. If this was a comparison of LTE speeds, then this would be a little bit more significant; however, even at that. The iPhone 6 uses Category 4 where is the competition uses Category 5 and 6. Once again, Apple is lagging behind in the tech.

Even the LTE speeds are pretty much irrelevant at least in North America as none of the carriers have support for the latest aggregation standards. If you live in Korea then it’s another story…

My brother is with Rogers. His Note 3 can go as high as 120Mbps with his LTE. I am with Fido on my iPhone 6 Plus. My LTE speed is around 50Mbps which is still very fast.

That’s fido for ya. The 6 has already been shown (I think over at mobilesyrup) to be capable of speeds in excess of 100mbps in Ontario using the big 3.

Depends on where you are. Fido can go as high as hundred and something Mbps. I had tried that before with my 6 plus.
