Mario Kart Tour Hits 90 Million Downloads in One Week

Nintendo’s Mario Kart Tour has become the company’s biggest mobile launch, according to Sensor Tower, hitting a staggering 90 million downloads in its first week:

Mario Kart Tour has raced to 90 million unique downloads in its first week to make it by far Nintendo’s fastest mobile game launch in its history, according to Sensor Tower Store Intelligence estimates.

The number of downloads is six times greater than the company’s second best launch, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which generated 14.3 million downloads in its first week. The company’s third best launch, Super Mario Run, picked up just under 13 million downloads in its debut week.

Sensor Tower says 53.5 million downloads came from Android and 36.5 million were on iOS. While Android dominated downloads, iOS users spent the most on in-app purchases at $9.6 million USD, about 75.5 per cent. Android users spent $3.1 million USD, just shy of 25%.

“At this very early stage, that gives Mario Kart Tour a revenue per download of $0.26 on iOS, compared to $0.06 on Android,” writes Sensor Tower.

Top downloads by country were the USA, followed by Brazil and Mexico.

Mario Kart Tour is free to download and play, but powered by in-app purchases. The hardest part of the game is signing up for a Nintendo account.
