Rumour Claims Apple Working on 7th-Gen iPod touch; USB-C for Next iPhone

With Apple’s sixth-generation iPod touch nearly four years old (it launched in July 2015), could we see a seventh-generation possibly debut?

That’s what Japanese site Mac Otakara is claiming, according to whispers from suppliers at CES 2019. The report doesn’t dive into much detail, only to claim a successor may possibly be in the works.

Apple still sells the sixth-gen iPod touch, priced at $249 and $369 CAD for 32GB and 128GB storage tiers, respectively. In July 2017, Apple doubled iPod touch storage for the same price, while discontinuing the iPod nano and Shuffle at the same time.

A newer iPod touch–hopefully with a larger display–would probably be a welcome addition for parents looking to get their kids a shiny iOS device, minus the phone part.

Mac Otakara also writes Apple’s 2019 iPhone line up could see a USB-C connector, joining this year’s 2018 iPad Pro models. With USB-C on iPhone natively, those with an iPhone 8 or newer would not need to purchase separate USB-C to Lightning cables and Apple’s 29W USB-C power brick to get fast charging (assuming Apple finally ditches the sad 5W charger).
