As we mentioned in our review of Logitech’s MX Keys wireless keyboard, a natural pair with the latter is the company’s MX Master 3 wireless mouse, which we are taking a quick look at today.
Logitech let us test out the MX Master 3, which is a huge upgrade over the company’s trusty Performance MX we’ve been using since forever. The MX Master 3 has more buttons, charges via USB-C and supports up to three connections.
Unboxing the MX Master 3 Wireless Mouse for Mac
In the box, you’ll get the MX Master 3 itself, along with a USB-C to USB-C charging cable. You also get a USB-A receiver if you don’t want to stick to a Bluetooth connection. Update: the MX Master 3 for Mac does not include a USB-A receiver.
The MX Master 3 feels great in your hand, a natural fit that is comfortable for all-day use. The highlight is the electromagnetic steel scroll wheel, which Logitech says is precise enough to stop on a pixel, while can also scroll 1,000 lines per second. It’s also whisper-quiet when scrolling, compared to our old scroll wheel.
There’s a mode shift button behind the scroll wheel to choose between free-spin and rachet mode. Either mode will see the scroll wheel spin very quickly when you need it to.
There’s also a side-scrolling thumbwheel, which is handy for quickly moving between tabs in your web browser. Below the thumbwheel are front and back buttons, while a gesture button is also located beneath your thumb.

The MX Master 3 uses Logitech’s Darkfield Tracking which works on nearly any surface, including glass with its 4000 DPI precision.
On the underside of the mouse, there’s the USB-C charging port at the front, an on/off switch, plus the Easy-Switch button, which lets you quickly switch between wireless devices. After pairing the MX Master 3 with our iPad, switching from our M1 MacBook Air to the latter was seamless.
Logitech says the MX Master 3 and its rechargeable Li-Po 500 mAh battery can give you three hours of usage from a one-minute quick charge. On a full charge, the battery will last 70 days.
The surface of the MX Master 3 can attract dust at first but once you use it over a few days the oils from your skin pretty much make it a non-stick surface. The grippy surface makes it easy to hold the mouse and prevent it from slipping away.
With Logitech’s software, the MX Master 3 and its buttons can be fully-customizable, so you can set a different function for each and increase your productivity. So if you use one app more than others, you can set a button to bring it up quickly, or even a gesture.

Overall, the MX Master 3 is a very powerful mouse and if you want to leverage Logitech’s Flow software, the mouse can move between macOS and Windows machines, enabling you to work smarter between your multiple devices. This single mouse can do it all for your workflow, no matter where you go with your devices.
You do get what you pay for though, as the Logitech MX Master 3 is priced at $129.99 CAD. But working professionals looking to increase productivity should not hesitate to upgrade and buy this mouse, especially when paired with the excellent MX Keys for Mac keyboard.
