Samsung may take a page from Apple’s book and remove the earbuds and charger from the Galaxy S21 box when it releases next year.
Apple faced a lot of scrutinies when it revealed that the iPhone 12 box would not contain its Lightning headphones and charging power adapter. Samsung was even quick to join in for a little lighthearted fun, creating their own meme. However, a report from SamMobile indicates that Samsung may come to remove the earbuds and 25W charger.

It’s worth pointing out that this news is still a rumour at this point. There is no irrefutable evidence backing up the claim that Samsung plans to remove its accessories. SamMobile’s report notes that Korean Media outlet ChosunBiz believes the company is considering the decision at this point, while insiders believe Samsung may only remove the earbuds while shipping the Galaxy S21 with the charger.
When Apple made the decision to remove its headphones and charger, it did so under the claim that it was for environmental purposes. The company said that with over 700 million Lightning headphones and two billion power adapters in the world already, chances are that iPhone 12 customers already have access to those accessories. The move was also done to cut down on packaging size and cost-benefit.
Samsung may be looking at the situation in the same light. The company already asks consumers to purchase a 45W Super Fast Charge adapter if they want to take advantage of the feature its contemporary mobile devices possess. Some customers are already living that reality by having to reach out to Samsung customer service to get their free AKG USB-C earphones with the Samsung Galaxy S20. Though, this is all dependant on where the purchase was made.
With that said, it does beg the question of whether the removal of such accessories will affect the price tag of its flagship devices upon release. We won’t know for sure until Samsung reveals the product sometime early 2021.
