SpaceX Starlink Internet Approved to Operate in Canada

Elon’s Musk’s SpaceX has hit a major milestone in Canada, as its Starlink low earth orbit high-speed internet has been approved to operate here, reports Tesla North.

“@SpaceX is joining the effort to help get Canadians connected to high-speed Internet! Regulatory approval for the @SpaceXStarlink low Earth orbit satellite constellation has been granted!”, said Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) on Friday morning.

This is huge news for rural Canadians and First Nations currently seeking affordable and reliable high-speed internet.

Earlier this week, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said Starlink was awaiting approval to operate in Canada, and now it’s official. The CRTC approved a telecom license for SpaceX back in October.

With its satellite constellation numbering close to 900 in space, Starlink is able to offer high-speed internet with low latency, allowing 4K streaming, gaming and video calls that was previously unavailable in rural areas with traditional satellite internet.

Today, Telus CEO Darren Entwistle also announced the company will be expanding 5G to rural areas with their low band frequencies.

Starlink internet public beta is currently available in the United States, but expect the first invites to hit Canada soon.
