Apple Watch ECG Feature Mentioned for ‘Non-US Regions’ in iOS 12.2

Currently, the ECG feature within Apple Watch Series 4 is only available for users in the United States, which excludes Canada and the rest of the world.

However, an ECG feature expansion may be planned, according to iOS 12.2 documentation, reports Guilherme Rambo for 9to5Mac.

According to Rambo, iOS 12.2 documentation mentions the addition of “for non-US regions, the ECG app is available on Apple Watch Series 4 with watchOS 5.2, paired with iPhone 5s or later with iOS 12.2 or later”.

Apple expected to release watchOS 5.2 sometime this week, following up on the debut of iOS 12.2 today for iOS devices, HomePod and Apple TV.

Also within iOS 12.2 is the ‘CE’ mark related to the Series 4 ECG feature. CE stands for Conformité Européenne, representing product certification for countries in the European Economic Area (EEA), which consists of 28 EU members and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. This hints ECG may be coming to these European nations

Recently, Health Canada provided an update on the Apple Watch Series 4 ECG feature, to say “Apple has communicated that they are working to bring the Apple Watch heart features to Canada soon. However, to date, Health Canada has not received an application.”

For Canadians, don’t hold your breath to wait and see if the ECG feature will arrive here. Let’s wait for watchOS 5.2 to arrive and see if the ECG feature debuts?
