According to Bloomberg, Apple is considering a rugged version of Apple Watch known internally as ‘Explorer Edition’.
“Apple Inc. is considering launching an Apple Watch with a rugged casing aimed at athletes, hikers and others who use the device in more extreme environments, according to people familiar with the matter,” reported Mark Gurman on Friday.
Source says Apple may launch a rugged version of its smartwatch later in 2021 or 2022 at the earliest. Apple also considered a rugged version of Apple Watch back in 2015 when the device first launched.
A more durable Apple Watch would have more impact resistance and protection thanks to a rubberized exterior, akin to a Casio G-Shock watch.
Also coming for Apple Watch are new swim tracking features, reports Gurman.
