Dropbox Announces Carousel for iOS: Your Pictures Backed Up to the Cloud [u]
Dropbox today has announced Carousel, a dedicated app for iOS and Android that backs up your photos and videos to their cloud storage. Images can be sorted by event and laid out in an easy to digest format with a timeline along the bottom.
Pictures can easily be shared privately via conversations with friends, making it also acting as a social network as well. The company says Carousel “combines the photos in your Dropbox with the photos on your phone, and automatically backs up new ones as you take them.”

Dropbox now has 275 million users and shared images can be sent to non-users.
The Dropbox app already has a photo backup features similar to Carousel, but it was a somewhat obscure feature (we never used it) that other apps also offered (Amazon, Flickr, etc). But with Carousel, the social sharing aspect makes it fun and easy to share images it seems. The only question is whether Dropbox will increase free storage rates or lower existing rates to compete with Google Drive’s recent price drops.
Carousel is set to hit the App Store later today. Stay tuned for updates.
