Instagram ‘Edits’ App Now Available, Taking on TikTok’s CapCut

Meta has suddenly launched its new Instagram ‘Edits’ app on the App Store and Google Play. In a bid to compete with TikTok’s CapCut editing software, Edits allows users to more easily edit videos and then share them on Instagram.
Earlier this year, CapCut was removed from the App Store in the US as threats of ByteDance’s software being banned began to seep in. As a means to potentially replace CapCut, Meta announced that it was working on a mobile video editing app. While the global rollout of Edits was delayed by a couple of months, the app is now widely available.
Edits is designed to assist users in the editing process of social videos. Using Edits, you can access a variety of tools to enhance your videos. With Instagram’s Edits, you’ll be able to take advantage of the Meta AI integrations, allowing for AI-powered animations and cutouts. There’s also an inspiration tab that feeds users trending audio. A separate Ideas tab also helps keep track of video ideas that you’re working on. Additionally, Edits allows users to export their projects without adding watermarks, something CapCut notoriously attempts to do.
Meta states that since last year, it’s been working with creators to test different concepts and incorporate feedback. Edits is still very much in its infancy, but it already appears as though Meta intends to invest in the app. On the roadmap of features to arrive, Edits will soon gain tools like keyframes, AI edits, more collaboration tools to use with friends and brands, and more. Meta also states that new fonts and text animations will be available.
Edits is available for free to download from the App Store and Google Play. Users will be required to have an active Instagram account to sign in.
