Twitter for iOS Gains ‘Message’ Button to Easily Share Tweets via DM

Twitter has started to roll out a new feature for its iOS users—a new dedicated Message button found next to tweets in your timeline, to make it easier to share content with friends via Direct Message “in just a few taps”.

The social networks says millions of Direct Messages are sent daily, with the number sent growing just over 60% in 2015. Meanwhile, Tweets shared privately have increased at a much higher rate of 200% in just the latter half of the same year.

Once you tap the new Message button, you select the contacts you want to send it to, then it appears within a DM, as seen below:

Twitter has now gone beyond just a social network, as it looks to be a messaging platform. Direct Messages last year gained the ability to go beyond 140 characters, while group DMs are also possible with up to 20 people, with the ability to send GIFs and emojis too.

The new Message button is coming today through an update to Twitter for iOS, so stay tuned.
