How To Enable the Hidden iOS 5 Auto-Correct Bar on your iPhone

Earlier today we learned how to enable the hidden panorama feature in the Camera app within iOS 5, and now a further hidden tweak has been discovered by 9to5Mac. This feature within iOS 5 is an auto-correct bar, that resembles something from Android smartphones.

This tweak was a discovery by Australia’s @sonnydickson, and can be enabled without jailbreaking your iOS device by following the steps listed below. Follow these instructions at your own risk, as always:

1. Download iBackupBot

2. Backup your iPhone/iPod in iTunes

3. Open iBackupBot and find the backup, then load it.

4. Find Library/Preferences/ and open the file. (if your software isn’t registered you’ll have to press cancel and then it will open)

5. Add in the following code: <key>KeyboardAutocorrectionLists</key><string>YES</string>

6. Save your modifications, and then restore from backup from within iBackupbot.

Let us know how this works for you, and from what I’ve read in the comments it’s more of a neat trick to test out as opposed to offering functionality to your iOS device.

I will be disabling this feature bebecause it causes ME to type slower be cause you must hit confirm become space and ifccauses words to become replaces with incorrect ones. Not only that buy if will crash whatever appyou are in it you use thearrows. Horrible implementaction!

Now this is much better! I can type again! So this solution is far from an Apple quality feature! It took me forever to type the above and it doesn’t even make sense! It kept choosing words for me and I couldn’t just click space I needed to click confirm first. So an extra button for every word typed. Not only that but it appears everywhere you have a keyboard and if you’re like me that also means the lockscreen password. Not good at all. And that arrow button causes a crash…I would say these 2 paragraphs took me the same amount of time to type.

Blaming apple for a horrible implementation when they haven’t even released the feature…

  • They must’ve forgotten to take it away because that file isn’t around in 5.0.1 Beta 2

Not blaming apple just saying it is not Apple quality yet. It still has a long way to go!
