Sharp Starts Shipping Delayed iPhone 5 Screens to Apple

The Wall Street Journal reports Sharp has started to ship iPhone 5 screens to Apple, according to their sources:

Sharp Corp. has just started shipping the screens for Apple Inc.’s iPhone 5, a person with knowledge of the situation said Thursday, after the Japanese electronics maker’s production of the liquid crystal display panels for the new smartphone had been delayed for weeks.

Mass production of the screens for the iPhone 5, which Apple unveiled Wednesday, began earlier this week at Sharp’s factory in central Japan, the person said.

The shipments could alleviate any concerns over whether Apple will have enough parts to meet demand for the iPhone 5. The WSJ reported at the end of August Sharp’s display panel shipments had been halted over manufacturing difficulties.

Back in May, Sharp was reported to supply panels for the iPhone 5. Sharp is an iPhone 5 screen supplier alongside LG Display and Japan Display. This comes as positive news considering iPhone 5 pre-orders are set to take place this Friday, September 14th at 12:01AM PDT.
