Chris Ziegler of the The Verge has pointed out that Apple has re-released iOS 5.0.1 today with a new build — 9A406 instead of the earlier 9A405. Interestingly, the new build is only available for the iPhone 4S.
The update is not the larger iOS 5.1 that’s currently in the hands of developers.
What makes this update interesting is an observation made by well-known iOS hacker MuscleNerd:
[I]t’s the first official 4S firmware with an accessible encryption key for the main file system, meaning you can browse the file system from a PC unimpeded. Lots of folks are pointing out that this means users will be able to get at Siri’s files without committing piracy, and that could lead to a field day for Siri hacks.
There’s no word from Apple, but this does appear to open the door for Siri to be porter to other iPhones.

i tried to DL over the air and says no update available????

Check for details at ijailbreak dot com. Looks like if you already have 5.1, you’ll have to use the direct download link at ijailbreak and then restore.
I have it running, but can’t actually view the full file system. No more than before using iexplorer and ifunbox. Is there something I’m missing??
If the size is as big as iOS 5.1 then it’s between 640 and 820 MB. Try connecting to iTunes and check for updates.
So does this mean that you can change the files such as Carrier Logo and other things without jail breaking?
Now that’s going to be sweet yet scary at the same time because this is huge for viruses to spread into the file system
I think the door is open to more porting of siri to other apps.
I already have 5.0.1. What’s the difference with this new now? How does one download it if iTunes tells that the most recent version is already installed?
