Reddit Is Getting a TikTok-Style For You Feed: Here’s What’s Changing

Social news and discussion giant Reddit has announced a major overhaul to its main feed experience, introducing a split-tab layout that separates personalized recommendations from the communities users have actively chosen to join (via TechCrunch).

Under the new layout, users will navigate between two distinct tabs: a “Following” feed and a “For You” feed. The Following tab is designed to show unviewed content exclusively from the subreddits that a user has subscribed to. This keeps the classic Reddit experience intact for people who only want to see posts from communities they explicitly follow.

Meanwhile, the new For You feed relies on algorithmic recommendations to surface content from across the wider platform. Similar to algorithmic feeds popularized by TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, this section aims to introduce users to popular discussions, trending topics, and niche communities they might not have discovered otherwise.

The change reflects Reddit’s ongoing push to increase user engagement and content discovery across its massive ecosystem. By leaning into personalized recommendations, the platform can better surface viral threads, emerging memes, and active conversations to casual visitors and daily scrollers alike.

While algorithmic feeds have become an industry standard for major social media networks, they often receive mixed reactions from long-time power users who prefer chronological or strictly curated timelines.

The rollout is part of a broader series of updates as the platform refines its interface and navigation features. By keeping the Following tab easily accessible side-by-side, Reddit is hoping to strike a balance between algorithmic discovery and user control.
