Apple Launching ‘AC Wellness’ Employee Medical Clinics

Apple is launching its own medical clinics in a move that will allow it to take employee healthcare into its own hands.

According to a new report from CNBC, Apple is quietly planning “AC Wellness” clinics it describes as “an independent medical practice dedicated to delivering compassionate, effective healthcare to the Apple employee population” and recruiting pages reference “beautiful and seamless technological experiences” as part of the practice’s philosophy.

Job advertisements on recruitment sites including Glassdoor describe AC Wellness as a “subsidiary of Apple,” operating in the Santa Clara area that surrounds the iPhone maker’s Cupertino headquarters:

AC Wellness Network is an independent medical practice exclusively dedicated to delivering compassionate, effective healthcare to the Apple employee and dependent population at the Apple Wellness Centers in Santa Clara Valley, including the new Apple Park Wellness Center. AC Wellness Network believes that having trusting, accessible relationships with our patients, enabled by technology, promotes high-quality care and a unique patient experience.

The company will build two clinics in Santa Clara, describing them as “multiple, stunning state-of-the-art medical centers” in the job listings. One will be built inside its Apple Park headquarters, while the other will be located just north it. Several employees who previously worked at Stanford Health Care have already started working for AC Wellness, according to CNBC.

On top of providing doctors, nurses and other medical staff, it looks like Apple will focus equally on prevention, via diet and exercise programs for employees. As such, it’s looking for “designers” who will put together programs aimed at promoting healthy living.

According to records from the Internet Archive, the domain name acwellness.com was bought, presumably by Apple, sometime in the second half of last year.

Apple’s apparent move into medical services follows Amazon’s plan to partner with Berkshire Hathaway and JP Morgan Chase to create a new not-for-profit healthcare company to try to lower healthcare costs for their employees.
