Apple News to Get ‘Native’ Ads for Sponsored Posts

Apple plans to introduce native ads within its Apple News iOS app, according to an updated developer document for the company’s in-house mobile ad platform, reports Business Insider.

The new native banner will display sponsored ads “directly in the content feeds, in line with News articles,” with the ability to link to an article inside the News app. Ads will be in the same font as other articles to blend into articles, but noted by a ‘sponsored’ tag, an advertising format used by numerous online publications:

The ad format would allow publishers a new way to monetize sponsored posts, with Apple taking a 30% cut of revenue through iAd, their mobile advertising platform.

Apple News made its debut in iOS 9 to replace Newsstand, but so far the app remains unavailable in Canada (although this simple workaround still works), however could launch soon as some have seen the app popping up sporadically on their iOS devices.

Back in January, Apple said up to 40 million people have used the Apple News app, which has attracted over 100 publishing partners worldwide since its release.
