The official Plex app for the new Apple TV is available to download as of today, allowing users to stream content from their computers to their Apple TV using the Plex Media Server software.

First announced in September, the official Plex app was still in review when the new Apple TV launched on Friday, but it has now been approved and released into the store. For those who are unfamiliar with Plex, it’s a personal media server for your personal content like TV shows, movies, and music.

Plex on the new Apple TV has a streamlined interface that makes it easy to see all of your media content at a glance. The service adds artwork for movies, TV shows, and music, in addition to including information like cast members, plot summary, and the rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

Plex has been available on devices like Google’s Chromecast and Amazon’s Fire TV for a while, however it was never officially available on older version of the Apple TV. The app was available on older Apple TVs but required a jailbreak.

The Plex app for Apple TV can be downloaded from the tvOS App Store. Even though the app is free, users must pay $4.99 as an in-app purchase to enable streaming playback. The app for iOS and tvOS are universal, so if you have already made the in-app purchase on your iOS device, you won’t have to pay again on your Apple TV.
