‘God of War Laufey’ Pre-Orders Open September 29, Editions Revealed

Sony has detailed pre-orders for God of War Laufey, while offering a closer look at how Faye will fight differently from Kratos when the PS5 exclusive launches next year. Pre-orders open September 29 at 10 AM local time ahead of the game’s February 16, 2027 release.

Anyone who pre-orders the Standard or Digital Deluxe Edition receives the Last Wish Armour Set, a Golden Leaves cosmetic appearance for companion Phranque and an in-game resource pack.

Physical Standard Edition copies include the preorder bonuses through a download code. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Dark Alchemy Armour Set, Dark Alchemy Blade, Dark Alchemy Bow Scales, and Dark Alchemy Catalyst, along with another resource pack, a digital mini artbook, and the official soundtrack.

Sony hasn’t announced a Collector’s Edition.

God of War Laufey was revealed during June’s State of Play, placing Kratos’ late wife Faye at the centre of the series for the first time. After dying before the events of 2018’s God of War, Faye unexpectedly awakens in the Everywhen, an afterlife populated by gods from different pantheons. She discovers that plans she left behind to protect Kratos and Atreus are threatened, sending her on a journey to return to her family.

Santa Monica Studio also revealed considerably more about Faye’s combat. Her new Serpent Bow is an enchanted weapon capable of quickly shifting between ranged and close-quarters attacks. Fully pressing the aim trigger enters a precision mode, letting players target specific body parts to impair enemies or charge up to five arrows. A half-press instead activates a more mobile hip-fire stance capable of firing clusters of arrows at close range. The bow can also juggle airborne enemies to extend combos, while different arrow types offer rapid-fire, explosive and multi-target attacks.

Customization extends beyond armour. Players can modify Faye’s sword with Blades, alter the Serpent Bow with Scales, and equip magical Catalysts with different effects. The Dark Alchemy items included with the Digital Deluxe Edition are variations of these gameplay systems rather than simply cosmetic skins.

Laufey is part of a major God of War expansion. Sony released God of War: Sons of Sparta earlier this year, while a remake of the original Greek trilogy is also in development.

God of War Laufey launches exclusively on PS5 on February 16, 2027.
