Rogers Gives Themselves ‘Product of the Year’ Award for Smart Home Monitoring

Today, a report was released that lists the “Products of the Year” for Canada, which showcases the best products based on customer satisfaction, innovation, and appeal.

“The Product of the Year Canada red seal is awarded to manufacturers who refine, develop, or adapt their products in order to stay top-of-mind for consumers.”

A jury selects a group of products that meet the standards for the award. Those finalists are categorized (three products per category) and sent to Canadian consumers via a survey that is conducted by the Rogers Custom Research group. Products with the most votes in each category win.

This year, you’ll never believe who won the award in the Home Technology category. Rogers gave themselves an award for their Smart Home Monitoring solutions, which allows users to remotely turn off lights, lock doors, and control the temperature of their homes.

I don’t know about you, but I believe that this is a serious conflict of interest. The company that runs the research group won an award for their own service. Do you think it’s fair for Rogers to be included in the product nominations even though they run the survey that picks the winner? Let us know in the comments below.

Raise your hand if you’re shocked Rogers would do such a thing… anybody?

  • I was without work for six months time when my early Fellow worker lastly strongly recommended me to get into freelancing from home… That was only just after I received $5000 in my first thirty days when I really believed I really could do this for a living! Today I am joyful than ever… I work-from-home and also I am my own boss now that I always wanted… I see several discouraged people around me, working the same old boring job that’s sucking the daily life out of them day-after-day… Each time I notice someone similar to that I say START FREELANCING MAN! This is where I started off >>>> http://rasp.is/a69cu1

Does anyone know of anyone who uses Rogers home system? Must be dozens of you if they won!

Its no more surprising then Rogers forcing us Hockey fans to watch the Maple Leafs( a team they own) on CBC Hockey Night in Canada EVERY Saturday noght, instead of rotating through all Canadian teams. It is who they are………..

  • FragilityG4

How is that any different from when didn’t have control of Hockey Night? The Leafs were always the main event on Saturday night…. besides if Bell were to have the rights, they own the Leafs too.

  • speedracer99

it was regional previously when CBC owned the rights. If you were in MTL it was Habs. In Ottawa it was Sens on Hockey night. Now it does not matter. It always the leafs….

As winner of the best comment on this post, I’d like to say that there is nothing at all wrong with giving yourself an award and telling everyone about it 😉

  • Congrats!

  • FragilityG4

But you still can see your team just not on the CBC which I don’t see as a big deal. Besides Rogers wants to make money and they know the Leafs are a number one draw in audience.

As provider of home TV, home internet, mobile internet, etc…. conflicts of interest are hardly new to Rogers. In fact they revel in them.

  • speedracer99

Leafs, number one draw. Only in Toronto…I am afraid. Hockey Night in Canada on Saturdays is all about being on the CBC and not buried on some Sportsnet channel week after week.

  • FragilityG4

Hockey Night in Canada once was about an opening theme song… I think people will adapt. Besides my guess is once the four year agreement is over, Rogers will take over Hockey Night completely cutting the CBC out.
Nationally the Leafs are the biggest draw as much as that might pain you to hear. That’s why they’re the most expensive NHL franchise… a fan base throughout North America. Rogers wants to make money and lots of it. They have obviously come to the same conclusion or else they wouldn’t have the Leafs on Hockey Night every Saturday front and centre. Ignoring profits and appealing to the locals is usually left for a highly subsidized cable network.
