Snapchat Launches Additional GIF Support With New GIPHY Partnership

Snapchat is launching a new library of animated stickers to place onto snaps in partnership with GIPHY in the latest update to the mobile app.

According to a new report from TechCrunch, these new GIF options are now loaded within the Sticker Pack, alongside the preexisting options within the app. Previously, the only GIF stickers available in Snapchat were in-house designed stickers that launched late in 2017.

To use the new feature, users can tap on the sticker icon on the main page, type in the search field, and a new GIF section will reveal various stickers related to the search. These GIFs can be scaled, rotated, and pinned to a video story; more than one GIF can be added to a snap.

This new feature launched merely a month after Instagram announced wide-scale GIF support on Instagram Stories, its competition to Snapchat.

In addition to GIFs, Snapchat is also adding tabs to both the Discover and Friends screens, allowing users to easily follow along with the Stories they want to see, when they want to see them. This will allow users to do certain things such as view friends’ stories and Group Chats in a single tab, while subscriptions can be viewed in the other.

Snap has announced a number of updates recently, including new audience analytics for brands and celebrities, and it has also opened its marketing API for all developers to use.

Snapchat recently rolled out a large-scale update to the app, which was aimed at making a clearer distinction between one’s Snapchat friends and professional content creators.
