Sylvania’s highly anticipated HomeKit-enabled, hub free SMART+ A19 Full Color Light Bulb has finally been released, which is now available for pre-order on Amazon for CDN$ 69.43, including free shipping, with delivery expected in September alongside other smart products. What sets this bulb from the rest is that it can be easily controlled via Siri and Apple’s Home app and doesn’t require a separate hub or a Wi-Fi router to function.

Installing the SMART+ bulb is super easy as well. Simply screw in the Bluetooth-enabled bulb into any lamp in your home or apartment and sync it with the Home app on your iOS device. That’s it. You can now start controlling the light using the Home App or via voice commands using Siri. You can turn it on and off, dim it, adjust it from a cool white for concentrating to a warm white for relaxing, or change it to one of millions of colors to quickly and easily complement the decor of any room.

“We are proud to break new ground with Apple to bring to market this first of its kind product,” said Aaron Ganick, head of Smart Business Americas, LEDVANCE. “Apple is known for innovative products that are simple and intuitive to use, while making our lives better. HomeKit is no exception. Our new HomeKit-enabled SYLVANIA SMART+ products are perfect for those who have heard how great it is to have a Smart Home but aren’t yet ready to tackle the installation and maintenance responsibilities of a larger system. Every iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch user already has the Home app at their disposal, and children are growing up talking to Siri as just a normal part of everyday life. We are making the reality of Smart Home even easier to obtain for the masses.”

Sylvania’s SMART+ lighting products will be available at additional major retailers online and in store across Canada. To pre-order the bulb, click here.

I don’t get this. Why is it that I can go online and order a 50ft roll of color changing LED’s with a remote control and everything for around $25, but ONE color changing LED bulb costs nearly $70?!

  • Most likely paying for HomeKit certification.
