Tangerine Interac Flash to Support Apple Pay in November?
In early August, Tangerine launched Apple Pay support, but only for their money-back credit card clients, leaving many wondering when Interac Flash support would arrive.

Interac Flash Apple Pay support appears to be coming soon, according to an updated cardholder agreement sent out to customers yesterday—set to kick in on Monday, November 7, 2016.

@iPhoneinCanada Received an updated Cardholder Agreement from @TangerineBank – looks like Interac Flash coming for debit in November

According to Tangerine bank customers and the iPhone in Canada nation, the updated agreement mentions paying by holding your card over a payment terminal.
5. Interac® Flash is a feature available on your Card that enables Cardholders to use the Tangerine Client Card to pay for purchases up to $100 at select merchants by holding your Card over a Direct Payment Terminal that supports Interac Flash. If you exceed this maximum amount at any merchant, you’ll be prompted to insert your Card in the reader and enter your PIN in order to complete the transaction. Interac Flash transactions are only for the payment of goods and services – “cashback” transactions are not permitted.
If you’re waiting for Apple Pay and Interac Flash with Tangerine, sounds like it’s coming soon, based on this new agreement. It only makes sense now that tap support is coming soon for the bank’s debit card.

Finally I don’t use it often but I would really like to when my credit card can’t be used.
I don’t think cards have to be Interac Flash-compatible to work with Apple Pay though. For example, my Desjardins debit card doesn’t have Interac Flash, but I’ve been able to add it to Apple Pay on my phone without any problem earlier this week.
It’s probably more of an internal decision (why go through the trouble of letting people add their debit cards/support the backend for the debit network if we’re going to send them new cards soon, or something like that).
Yeah that’s is it. BMO didn’t have interact flash when they first supported AP. But shortly after they got it along with the Debit-MasterCard.
Desjardins doesnt have interac flash on their debit card, and it works with apple pay
That’s what I just said…
Finally! I was about to phone them today and close my account as I was really pissed off that they didn’t offer AP for debit earlier this year. Good thing I read your post Gary.
i just closed my account this week, HAHHAHA
Too late i closed everything with them
Would PC Financial follow suit since their credit cards came out the same time.
Yes, PC Financial has had interac flash for awhile now but they don’t support debit cards in Apple Pay. I don’t think having flash really has any bearing on Apple Pay support.
I’m just glad Tangerine is FINALLY getting Flash support. Took way too damned long.
National Bank still doesn’t support it… It is 2017…
Interact flash has nothing to do with Apple Pay… In fact, Desjardins refuse to support Interact flash and their debit card still support Apple Pay
Any update on this?
