Hello NBC Olympics App, Good Bye CTVOlympics.ca

Leading up the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, we reviewed two must-have apps for the iPhone: the official 2010Guide and CTVOlympics.ca. Both of these apps do an excellent job that helps you keep track of the games.

CTVOlympics.ca iPhone App Reduces Features With Updates (No Medal Breakdowns)

With the first couple of updates to the CTVOlympics.ca app, I soon discovered that the MEDAL COUNT feature was now only available to the $1.99 Pro version (which also includes Push Notifications). CTV removed the medal count breakdowns, and made it only available to the upgrade version! I understand the reason for a paid version, but to have an essential feature removed in the free version is cruel.

Hello NBC Olympics iPhone App

There’s another solution for those Olympic junkies out there. It’s the NBC Olympics iPhone app, which is free and is loaded with features, including Push Notifications. It has the medal count breakdown, TV schedule, news, twitter feeds, and more. Features not available to non-US residents are the video highlights.

You can set which sports you want notifications for, and included is a breakdown of what sport countries won their medals in. You can also select what alerts you want for each sport. Definitely a great replacement for the CTVOlympics.ca app.

Let me know if you like the NBC Olympics app. I think it’s pretty good considering it’s free! GO CANADA GO!
