Remembrance Day iPhone Apps: Veterans Matter and We Remember

Remembrance Day is tomorrow and we should all take time out of our busy schedules to give a moment of silence to Canadian soldiers that sacrificed their lives in previous and existing wars and conflicts.

We Remember Updated for 2011 Remembrance Day Events

Last year, we saw Veteran Affairs Canada launch an app called We Remember. This year, the app has been updated to include 2011 Remembrance Day events along with new home screen graphics and a new app icon (maple leaves instead of the poppy?!). We Remember is no longer managed by Veteran Affairs Canada, but by Mindsea Development. The app is still an excellent way to find Remembrance Days Events near you.

Veterans Matter by Veteran Affairs Canada

Veteran Affairs Canada has launched a new app this year titled Veterans Matter to help veterans access various services and benefits. Similar to We Remember, it will also help you find an event or ceremony based on your location, locate the nearest VAC office, learn about the New Veterans Charter (NVC), and even includes a screening tool to see if veterans qualify for services and benefits under the NVC.

Other features include access to the VAC Facebook wall, videos from their YouTube channel, wallpapers, the location of Canadian war cemeteries, monuments and battlefields around the world. The app also provides contact information for VAC, eSalute! newsletter articles, and even share the app with a friend.

For this Remembrance Day, these are two must-have apps to help us remember. Spread the word.
