How to Increase Your iPhone Speaker Volume by 100%

One of the problems with the iPhone I find (along with many others) is the less than stellar speaker volume. I know 1.1.1 was supposed to address this issue, and some have tried the 3rd party software route of AudioAmp, but none of those methods have made a significant change. I am going to tell you a trick today on how to increase your iPhone speaker volume–by at least 50-100%!

This mod requires some intense training and will require you to invest in some expensive materials. For this iPhone speaker mod, you will require:

  • a needle or clothespin img_2379-medium.JPG
  • some patience/courage/determination
  • …and a sense of humor 😉

How to Increase your iPhone Speaker Volume

  1. Before we being…test our your external speaker by calling yourself, or listening to an mp3. Try to remember the volume level.
  2. Take your needle or clothespin and gently poke it into the speaker holes on your iPhone (Where is the speaker? the speaker is below the Home button, on the bottom left; the right is the mic).
    • Don’t poke too deep, poke about 2 millimeters or so, or until you feel the needle/clothespin penetrating material. You will see some white residue that looks like dried glue of some sort.
    • This is what you will be poking your needle through: iphonespeaker2-small.jpg
    • This is what it looks like behind the protective material:
    • iphonespeaker1-small.jpg (images thanks to Mr. Geddy from flickr)
  3. That’s it! Now, go back to your speaker test…and voila! Your volume should be increased substantially! On my iPhone, the speaker volume is nice and LOUD, compared to before. Love it!

Get ready to do something like this…

Things to think about…

  • Some people posted about the possibility of DUST entering through these newly penetrated holes. Yes, that is possible, but it’s not like you’re using a drill and making massive holes here. We’ve just puncturing the material that is impeding the speaker’s performance.
  • If you’re worried about dust, maybe you should avoid this mod altogether. Dust will enter any electronic device, regardless. Personally, I think it’s worth it since there’s no point in having your iPhone if you can’t hear it ringing in your pocket!

I just tried this. Wow, it really does make your speakers loud. And it sounds like the quality has improved a bit too. I was worried about it being too loud and making my speakers all static. But it really works. Thanks.

audioamp won’t install on my phone. i think i have 1.1.3, could this be why?

@T
Hmmm that might be the problem, I have it install on my 1.1.2 and it works but I don’t notice any difference lol
Anyone else have feedback about how well this modification works?

Thanks

I did this on my first iPhone and it completely disabled the cell-tower antenna. I had to get rid of the iPhone and buy a new one. I would suggest NOT trying this hack and I want to remind you that its NOT covered by warranty and it IS easy to spot if you take the phone apart.

Thanks this worked awesome I was tinkering to make holes in the speaker mesh cover. Only i ended up pushing the whole thing through. at the same time I was playing music I was scared aI would poke a hole into the speaker. I just took out the whole metal mesh and right behind that there is a cloth no wonder I get no sound out of the damn thing its all muffled.

So what I did to help protect is what Ive seen in other phones piece of thin sponge like material. black so you cant tell. But now my speaker volume level is at the middle cuz it can get too loud that the speaker will sound distorted.

if your going to poke with a needle carefull if you push the mesh all the way in will make it sound worse. U can prob do what I did.

was able to get it from the side and with the needle pry the mesh out till I could get it with my finger tips then just pulled it out. the glue they use really sucks feels like rubber cement. Damn phone is assembled in china (careful glue might contain lead LOL) hope this helps out anyone .

Did you have to take it apart to put the sponge material in? I did this too and now the mesh looks like crap and I’m thinking about just taking it out.

juanitto

No i didnt have to take it apart. I took the whole mesh thing out its a piece of crap and I just grabbed an old pair of headphones used the sponge form the ear piece cut it into a small piece and with some small tweezers I just placed it in there. The sponge was big enough to fit snug but not to muffle the sound I had a song playing in Ipod to determine if it would be loud enough or not.

Hope this helps you out now. I just dod the same thing to my friends iPhone and he likes it as well just take the the whole mesh thing out it muffles the sound.
