OtterBox Armor Series iPhone Case Review

Update: Click here to read our iPhone 4 OtterBox Defender/Commuter Case Review!

Are you looking for the strongest iPhone case on the planet? I think I have just the case for you. Remember my review of the OtterBox.com Defender series case? Well, all I have to say is the latest Armor series puts that case to shame. This indestructible case brings iPhone protection to another level. Read on for more!

The Armor Series iPhone case comes with the following features:

  • Fits 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB iPhones; comes in yellow or black
  • Waterproof, dustproof, dirtproof, sandproof, and drop-proof.
  • Screen protected by a PATENTED thin membrane which remains fully functional through the case.
  • Two easy open compound latches secure the case.
  • iPhone is cradled by impact absorbing rubber on all sides.
  • External phone jack maintains the microphone and click button functionality of the Apple headphones or usable with any style headphones with a standard mini stereo plug (1/8″).
  • Weight (Case Only): 4.5oz. Dimensions: 5.8″ x 3.2″ x 1″

My first impression upon taking this case out of the box was WOW…this thing is mammoth. The case itself is pretty big, but that bulkiness protects your iPhone from all the elements. The Armor series is made for people who will be taking their iPhones to the extreme. Water, wind, sand, dust and rain cannot touch your iPhone when it’s in this thing. It would be perfect for soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan!

Tell me more about the case and the installation!

Installing is easy. You slide your iPhone into the case which opens up like a clamshell. Close the clamshell and snap the latches into place. Since the case is completely waterproof, you can only talk/listen via headphones. That’s right folks…this is how hardcore this case is. It can be seen as a downside to some, but if you’re in a dusty desert, you wouldn’t want your iPhone being exposed to the elements. So it really depends on what you’ll be doing to maximize the full potential of this case.

Does this case pass the water test? Watch and find out for yourself…

Here’s a gallery of pictures…check em out for yourself:

The Final Verdict on the OtterBox Armor Series case

This case is the top of the line model from OtterBox. It’s geared towards those people who want the best protection for their iPhone when they are heading into rainy, dusty, or dangerous operating conditions. It will protect your iPhone.

At $69.95US, the Armor series case is not cheap at all. However, you do get what you pay for. The plastic casing, design, and ease of use of this case is second to none. It’s clear that the team at OtterBox did their homework and research! You can drop your iphone in mud, concrete, water, sand, etc., and still have the piece of mind that it’s going to be protected 110%.

So if you absolutely NEED serious protection, this case is for you. For the everyday power user, you might want to consider something else. In the end, this case is totally worth the money if you need the best out there–nothing can compete with the Armor Series from OtterBox!

Sweet! You know someone truly believes in a product when they put their own equipment at risk! This would be a great case for so many situations! How many times do we “pamper” our phone when doing certain things? Imagine climbing on the roof to hang lights, washing the car, spraying off the house, lying on the beach, being outside in the rain, etc… without having to worry about the phone on your hip!!!

I will definitely add this case to my armor! Thanks iPhone Fan!

Try this with your case.. drop it such that the front screen impacts with somthing like a rock.
looks like anything hitting the screen will still smash it. which is the limitation of all cases that still alow screen use.
So unless someone wants to loose practicality(ie useing the touch screen while in case) no case will protect the screen from falling on a rock or somthing where point of impact is dead centre on the screen.

Here’s the deal with the cases and screens and all. Yeah, this case is hardcore, about as much so as you can get with a phone cover that isn’t in a bank vault. The thing with your screen, not to sound too sarcastic here, but if you are doing stuff with this phone where you need to worry about all of that, you probably aren’t going to be talking on the phone in the first place so leave your little hip mounted lifeline at home for a little while

If you require waterproof and for the screen to be fully protected, then you can not expect to use it in any housing. In which case you could use a small otterbox, and just take it out to talk. If you want to get the maximum protection, while still being able to use the phone straight from the pocket; this is about the best solution. Although, I’ll say now; I wish it had a hard piece of plastic that fit over the screen and would flip out of the way like an old star trek communicator. If you dont need waterproof, I suggest the defender series and keep the case in the belt clip holder, but remove the belt clip. That way you have full protection (minus waterproofness)

I can’t believe that with the new iPhone 3G expecting to sell 10 million units, that Otterbox isn’t making an Armor case for it.

I second that. What the hell? I upgraded to a 3G, and now I find out that I can’t get a waterproof case for it? What kind of bs is that? Big financial mistake for Otterbox if you ask me.
