Got some news for all you hardcore iPhone users out there. The iphone-dev team has announced a new tool that they have been working on called QuickPwn. It is basically an easier tool to jailbreak your iPhone 3G without a full restore. They are still working on the iPhone 3G unlock, which may or may not happen. Here’s what they had to say about QuickPwn:
It’s a tool we’ve been working on to jailbreak a phone more quickly and easily, without requiring a full restore. Unless you are making a custom firmware with specific features, there is nothing inherent in the pwnage process that requires a restore, and we have been planning this tool for some time. It’s more convenient because you do not need to make a full IPSW and use iTunes with it, but your phone still ends up pwned and jailbroken.
They have released a development version of the program, which only hardcore people should be testing out. In the mean time, this is great news for iPhone users as the jailbreaking process is getting easier and easier!

what’s a GUI version?
So what exactly can you do with a pwn’ed iphone. I know there’s a program for themes but what else? Anyone have a link for websites with supported programs?
@Nutchos well, there’s the NES emulator, Quake for iphone, and a gabillion other programs that people are making only for the jailbroke phone. Apparently it’s well worth it. http://www.apprater.com/ is a good place to start, then just google more.
i tried it but had a problem. the phone calling feature is gone. the only way for me to call someone is through contacts. also, there’s no end call function.
First want to say your site ROCKS!!! I’ve been reading crazy amounts of info on unlocking the iphone and there is way too much mix-matched howto’s out there. I have a brandnew iPhone 3G 2.0.1(5B108) and I want to use Tmobile. Can this be done yet? If not, do I have to downgrade the phone to then be able to use my tmobile service?

i just jailbroke 2.0.2 with the GUI. all you have to do is put fw 2.0.2 on it download 2.0.1 and use quickpwn to jailbreak that 2.0.1 and put it on to the iphone but somehow its 2.0.2. i swear this isn’t a lie i have my jailbroken iphone 3g on 2.0.2. i followed a video on youtube and it worked:D and it also fixed my problem with installer not working
I’m going to hold off this jailbreaking business until iSlisk is up and running. Best app ever. Its a p2p some-tech-lingo that lets you download music where ever!
