GelaSkins: Artist-Designed Skins for your iPhone Review–CONTEST!

A while back I reviewed Unique Skins, removable skins that you customized for your iPhone. This time around, we’re going to stick to the pro artists since my Unique Skins designs were just plain pathetic! Today we’re going to check out a Canadian company that has artist-designed removable skins–GelaSkins.

What are GelaSkins?

GelaSkins, based out of Toronto (aka the center of Canada, haha), makes a wide selection of removable skins (iPods, cameras, laptops, etc) featuring almost 70 artists. The designs are amazing and the product itself is really easy to apply and remove. Featuring 3M’s top of the line Controltac adhesive vinyl. At less than 2 millimeters thin, the vinyl features tiny grooves that allow for a perfect bubble-free application every time, yet protecting your iPhone too.

How to Install your GelaSkin

After receiving some samples in the mail I was very impressed with the product’s design and quality. Since I already had an invisibleSHIELD installed on my iPhone 3G, I decided to install the GelaSkin right over top of it! The vinyl is very thin so it does not add bulk to the phone. The install took about 30 seconds and I must say it was probably the easiest “skin” install I’ve done so far. Why was it so easy? It’s because of the grooves in the Contraltac material which allows air bubbles to escape easily. No water/spray necessary!

The design I put on my iPhone was Gummi Anatomie by New York-based artist, Jason Freeny. After the back piece was installed, I went to GelaSkin’s iPhone wallpaper website to save the free matching front wallpaper to my iPhone 3G (first gen users will have to save to their computer and manually upload). There are front wallpaper images that accompany every single image on the site.

The Final Verdict…

An iPhone 3G GelaSkin will cost $14.95. This only includes the back piece–which may seem pricey to some people. However bear in mind these are top quality designs by real artists, not your run-of-the-mill-Joe-Blow–they need to eat too.

So if you’re looking for something original to make your iPhone stand out from the crowd, plus some minor protection too, check out GelaSkins. Standard shipping in Canada is a very reasonable $3.95 and there is a 30 day return policy on unopened skins. On returns, you can send back your opened skin and exchange it for another one, minus shipping of course.
