Rogers 6GB/$30 Smartphone Data Plan Quietly Extended!

Hey boys and girls! After speaking to a few sources, it has been CONFIRMED that the 6GB/$30 data plan has been extended! It’s not on the Rogers or Fido website, but if you head into a Rogers/Fido store and inquire about it (nicely of course!), they can still add it to your account.

The option is still in the system and it’s been confirmed by a couple Rogers employees. So there you have it. If you missed the 6GB/$30 data plan boat, you have a limited time to jump on it! I was told that going into a store and asking about it might result in confused looks from employees, but not everybody knows about it. You could even try calling a CSR on the phone. This is “great” news for those still wanting the 6GB/$30 data plan, versus the new revised data rates! Get on it and let me know if you were able to get the plan! 🙂

Hey iphone fan…. Not sure if your source works in a store on in a call center. But through the stores online processing system, you CANNOT add the 6GB plan anymore. I just pulled up 6 different accounts to triple check (times 2) and the option was not available in any of the lines, 3 of which have data device IMEIs attached and the option was still not there.

HOWEVER…

You can add the new Flex Rate Plan on a ZERO month committment. This gives you the best value in overage protection, for the best price.

The code for the plan is DSFLEX0 — (CSC) Flex Rate Plan $30.00— so if you want to avoid confusion over the phone just quote DSFLEX0 to the CSR and that will ensure you get the right plan.

This plan includes –
30$ up to 500mb
35$ up to 1gb
50$ up to 2gb
65$ up to 3gb
85$ up to 5gb
100$ unlimited

This plan resets back to 30$ every month, so if you use less than 500mb per month, you will only ever pay 30$ for data and it fluxuates automatically with your overage – giving you the best overage rate available. And don’t forget, on all NEW data plans Rogers will not charge more than 100$/month – so unlimited is now possible, for 100$.

One stipulation – if you have the self control to stay UNDER 500mb then you can get the 25$/500mb plan. But keep in mind the overage on that plan is much more than you would pay on the flex rate plan, as it automatically flexes instead of charging flat rate overages.

So, in my eyes, the flex rate plan, with no contract (on existing accounts or new iphones, as iphones don’t require mandatory data – Blackberrys and Windows Mobile new accounts would require 3yr term) this is the best deal on data. If you don’t use a lot, you won’t get charged alot, if you do use alot, you get the best overage protection. So all you that don’t have data yet.. Hook yourself up on this plan with no committment and see how glorious 3G is… 😀

PS. feel free to PM me and I’ll set it up for you, I’ll get paid a little commission, you’ll get sweet 3G with no committment – it’s win, win! and ps. I wouldn’t lie about the 6GB plan because if I were to set you up on that I’d get paid triple the commission of this plan.

Wireless data… in Canada… Unlimited… Broadband price… Not anytime soon man. Broadband Internet is not even umlimited with Rogers or Bell. They both have bandwidth caps, albeit they are around 95gb on the higher end plans, I highly doubt you’ll ever see a truly unlimited data plan over the wireless network in Canada. The UK doesn’t even have that yet! “unlimited plans” in the UK and all over the world all still have a fair usage policy attached which puts a cap at around 5gb…. and they don’t just charge you overage when you hit 5gb.. They cut you off. I’d rather be charged overage, then cut off, if I really needed it.

pps. I read on a different post that this plan is available to iphones only still. I have not confirmed that, as I don’t know any account that has an iphone IMEI but didn’t sign up for that plan already. I will call our dealer line and confirm that as soon as I get a chance.

iPhone Fan,

Just confirmed on an iPhone account without data.. could not add the 6gb plan through the dealer site. So, I wouldn’t waste time going to a dealer store and trying to get it.

Your best bet is to try customer service, retention or the flex rate plan.

X1Zero

YES, you can go IN STORE and request it. The rep in store will contact the appropriate channels to add the 6gb plan.
(Thomas, obviously its not available in SC. Its expired there. Call DIG, get your commission and add the data.)

There is NO reason that people need to call Rogers to add this and I’m pretty sure half the reps on the phone will just tell you its canceled.

lol i wonder what the price is this time if i call a CSR and want the 6 gig plan, 1 week before it was free (just the price of the phone), 2 days before the expiry it was 60 and day before was 80… so im sure its the commission rate being dicked around.

In my limited experience with Rogers there is a disconnect between going into a Rogers store/dealer, using the website, and calling the 1-800 number. By far, my greatest gains have come when actually calling the Rogers 1-800 line. My impression is that they have the most leeway/flexibility in making deals, and perhaps the 6GB deal is one of them.

Here’s my problem – I got on the Family Plan for 2 iPhones (one for me, one for the Mrs.). She uses very, very little data yet I have her on the $30/6GB deal. I wish there was a reduced price for less data deal – like $15/1GB or something. Perhaps I should be calling the 1-800# I’m touting 😉

Tried a Fido kiosk in Montreal (Promenades St-Bruno) today with no luck. The rep was very nice, and i had a chance to discuss how it was reported that the option was still available in the system, but he confessed his ignorance on how to proceed. Strike no.1 …

Thanks for your the news and your comments though, very helpful

hey Seb did they make you pay a fee because you were over a certain time with your previous contract? my fee was 80 bucks on top of the iphone (200 bucks) plus the 1st month service. It was really lame because that 80 bucks wasn’t there before.

I just called Rogers Customer Service line (instead of getting off my ass and going all the way to the store), and was told that today (Oct 6/08) is “the last day for the $30/6GB 3-year plan to be guarenteed”. Now, if that means you can shoomze someone at a later point if you’re extra cute, I’m not sure … But I got my plan today. Hooked up air time, My5 long distance, the 6GB data plan, voicemail, caller ID, texting, etc …. for $87.45 CAD including system access fees, 911, and GST.

🙂

I use the original iPhone on Fido since Jan ’08…

Fido messed up my bill last month and started charging me for data even though I have been on the 6gig/$30 plan since it came out. At first they wouldn’t Credit the charges >$400 after speaking with a ‘supervisor’ they agreed, with the understanding that the plan is not guaranteed to work with ‘non-fido’ phones and that if this were to happen again in the future they would not Credit me for any additional data charges.

Has anyone heard this?? I’m afraid the ‘supervisor’ just flipped the switch on me again???

Does this mean that in 1 day I got screwed (I had intended to activate this the other day and just procrastinated) and there is NO POSSIBLE WAY to get the 6GB/$30 plan??? That’s crazy. Not even a manager override is possible?

Nah, its definitely gone. I changed my plan earlier today and got a pretty good deal through customer services and got the 1gig / $30 plan. The guy I was talking to was really cool, helped me out loads, and he said there was no option for that plan anymore. It was supposedly phased out at the end of September but you could still add it last week, but now… nothing…

I’m pretty sure the 6GB data plan is now completely gone. Just canceled a 10yr account over it, so much for retention. And yes, I was very polite, respectful and patient. Until I see some real usage statistics, I just can’t see how 1-2GB is enough.
